Wisk Aero
A wholly owned Boeing subsidiary, Wisk Aero is an Advanced Air Mobility company developing self-flying, electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxis aimed at delivering a safe, sustainable autonomous air taxi service for daily travel.
Commercial
Boeing Commercial Airplanes is a global manufacturer of commercial jetliners, connecting people, countries and economies safely and efficiently.
In Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, Boeing’s presence is long-standing: Qantas Group (including Jetstar) has ordered hundreds of Boeing aircraft since 1959, from the 707 to the 737 Classic, 737 Next Generation, 747 and the 787 Dreamliner. Virgin Blue (now Virgin Australia) was the first Australian carrier to order the 737 Next Generation and continues to operate the type, along with the 737 MAX. Air New Zealand flies 777‑300ERs and 787‑9s and has 787‑10s on order. Air Tahiti Nui operates an all‑Boeing fleet of 787‑9s, while Fiji Airways operated 747s, 737 Next Generation and became Oceania’s first 737 MAX operator in 2018.
Supporting this fleet locally, Boeing Aerostructures Australia (BAA) at Fishermans Bend in Melbourne is Australia’s designer and manufacturer of structural composite components for Boeing commercial aircraft, designing, testing, certifying and producing advanced composite structures for the 737, 777 and 787.
Defence, Space & Security
Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) delivers integrated air, land, sea and space solutions through local design, manufacture and sustainment partnerships.
With a broad presence across Australia and New Zealand — in RAAF Base Amberley and RAAF Base Townsville in Queensland; South Australia; RAAF Base Williamtown and HMAS Albatross in New South Wales; and Royal New Zealand Air Force Base in Ohakea — BDA supports complex programs from aircraft maintenance and training to mission systems, communications networks and advanced sustainment for platforms such as the MQ-28 Ghost Bat, E-7A Wedgetail, P-8A Poseidon, F/A-18F Super Hornet/EA-18G Growler, CH-47F Chinook, AH-64E Apache and C-17A Globemaster.
BDA leads the development of the MQ-28 Ghost Bat in partnership with the Royal Australian Air Force.
Backed by Boeing’s global resources and a strong national supply chain, BDA focuses on interoperability, sovereign capability and long-term partnerships to meet evolving defence needs.
Innovation and Partnerships
Phantom Works Australia (PWA) is BDA’s rapid prototyping arm, developing capabilities and processes that give the warfighter collective agility and decision advantage. PWA’s mission is to analyse, identify and prototype strategic capabilities – those that let a warfighter enter an adversary’s decisionmaking cycle – and to transition those capabilities to BDA business units within five years. PWA comprises two groups, the Rapid Development Group and the Rapid Prototyping Group.
The Rapid Development Group, which includes the Virtual Warfare Centre, uses simulationbased operations analysis, mission engineering and digital ecosystems to identify customer capability gaps and to create bespoke, digitally led environments that enable the Rapid Prototyping Group to deliver rapid prototypes in partnership with the relevant BDA business units.
Boeing Technology Innovation – Australia (BTI‑A) is Boeing’s advanced research and development hub in Melbourne and Brisbane, turning Australian innovation into aerospace and defence capabilities.
Partnering with universities, CSIRO and industry, BTI-A focuses on composites, additive manufacturing, cobots, autonomy, modelling & simulation, disease transmission and pandemic threats, space systems and advanced production systems, improving manufacturing performance, and building a skilled talent pipeline.
Boeing’s Australian supply chain includes over 2,300 local suppliers—SMEs, Indigenous, veteran and women‑owned businesses—supporting 30+ defence, commercial and R&D programs with an annual spend of ~AUD 400M. This diverse network strengthens sovereign capability, ensures safe, high‑quality production, and connects Australian technology to global markets through the Office of Australian Industry Capability.
Boeing is committed to supporting education for Australian small to medium enterprises (SMEs). In 2022, we launched the Boeing Capability Uplift Program, a 12-month initiative designed to help SMEs improve their defence business readiness and Defence maturity. Our main goal is to empower these companies to secure contracts or expand their existing ones within the defence sector. This program is a collaboration between Boeing, the Office of Defence Industry Support (ODIS), and Defence Jobs Queensland.
