A derivative of the Boeing 737, the E-7A Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) is the centrepiece of Australia’s national air defence capability, incorporating powerful airborne surveillance, communications and battle management capability.

Featuring the distinctive Multi-Role Electronically Scanned Array radar, integrated onto an aircraft for the first time, the E-7A Wedgetail gathers information from multiple sources to provide complete situational awareness of airborne and maritime targets. Aircrew use this data to control the tactical battlespace and direct fighter aircraft, land and surface combatants via 10 on-board mission consoles.

Boeing Defense Australia (BDA) is contracted to deliver upgrades and sustainment services for the life of the Royal Australian Air Force’s (RAAF) fleet of six E-7A Wedgetail aircraft.  BDA delivers this work in close partnership with the RAAF’s No 42 Wing, Airborne Surveillance, Control & Intelligence System Program Office, and industry partners, with support from Boeing’s Defense, Space & Security team in the United States.

The Australian program has developed sovereign capability in delivery of mission systems, core ground segments, software development, sustainment engineering and deeper maintenance for AEW&C aircraft.
